Abbotsford GC vs Carrick GC – Belleisle

Abbotsford GC vs Carrick GC – Belleisle

Twelve Angry Men versus the Dirty Dozen played out of their skins last Friday evening and our Club retained the trophy with a 3 and a half: 2 and a half victory. Special mention to our Vice Captain who held the Carrick at bay until help arrived at the 11th tee in the form of new member Steven Hill and, to messrs Cooney/Dickson, Reilly/Connor and Cooper/Nix for outright wins. The Carrick were true Corinthians and a pleasant evening was had by all at HQ. This is the third year of the competition and we look forward to next year.

Andrew Hunter Memorial Outing

Andrew Hunter Memorial Outing

Members please note the Andrew Hunter outing to Balmore Golf Club on Saturday10th August 2013. Recent reports state the course is in great order, so get your name up on the sheet posted on the notice board where full details are available. We are generally making our own way to the venue, however if anyone/group want to arrange a mini bus let me know and we will obtain costs and organise transport if numbers merit this. Please note the cut off date for payment, as it will not be acceptable to pay on the day. I took in around £500 cash at last year’s outing and it results in unnecessary hassle on the day for me and Chalmers. It promises to be a great day so support your annual outing ! Jim Hunter

2013 Abbotsford Challenge

2013 Abbotsford Challenge

The 2013 Abbotsford Challenge Trophy has been won by Benjamin Cooney with a perfectly acceptable total of 65 stableford points. The Club ventured away again following the success of the 2012 campaign with a reprise of the Selkirk Open at Kirkcudbright on Saturday 6th April and then on to Brighouse Bay on Sunday. Kirkcudbright Golf Club made a magnificent effort to clear the snow away and present us with a course in good condition. Although none of our members were in the prizes this time round the Club Committee made us very welcome and a number of us will play the course again for sure. Quite a few of us enjoyed a sherbet or two, or possibly nine, in Castle Douglas where young Mr Baker demonstrated his mastery of grain and grape varieties before having a taxi hailed for him. The ‘disco’ at The Market Inn resembled a scene from Shameless and could well be that place at the end...

Don Wilson

Don Wilson

We all wish Don Wilson the best who has had a bit of a setback in his recovery. Unfortunately, the operation which initially looked succesful did not work out as hoped. As always, Don remains in good spirits though and we look forward to the day when he will make his return.

Cap’n vs Vice Cap’n

Cap’n vs Vice Cap’n

Congratulations to Norman Dickson’s team for boldly going where no Captain has ever gone before and securing the first ever win for the Captain’s side in the season’s opener of Captain vs Vice Captain trophy. What was looking to be an overwhelming victory as the early results came in, went in fact to the wire, Jim Hunter and Tom Crozier securing the trophy 3.5 to 2.5 New Vice Captain Craig Robertson was magnanimous in defeat and will no doubt be looking for victory in 2014, 15 and 16.

Club Member, Colin Davidson wins the Handyside Trophy in Ayr Golf Week 2012

A stunning victory in Ayr Golf Week. Colin Davisdson, 2012 winner of the Handyside Trophy.Ably assisted by Supercaddie Craig Robertson who now has two back to back handyside assists under his belt, Colin Davidson achieved legendary status today in a close fought final, watched by proud father Ronnie and a good turnout from the club. Coming up the 18th, his opponent left his ball perched on the front lip of the right hand greenside bunker but chipped in to the hole on the opposite side of the green to square the match. The play off hole went like this: Colin’s drive strayed right but fortunately left him with a shot up the left side of the 1st and keeping his cool, played a great shot to leave a 100 odd yard pitch to the green. His opponent played into the left hand greenside bunker. A pitch to just off the back off the green left Colin with a forty footer...
