Congratulations to Lee Paton on his first victory in the club winning the Spring Stableford followed straight after by winning the April Medal, Congratulation to Willie Telford on winning the April Midweek Medal, Big Mike Mcarthur kept up his great early season form taking the May Medal and Colin Davidson returned a sublime nett 65 in taking the May Midweek medal. Congratulations to all.
Rab Adams unfortunately got knocked out of the Champion of Champions in the 2nd round getting beat at the 20th hole at Belleisle and our Matchplay pairs team of Eric Armour and Mike Mcarthur sufferd the same fate in the 2nd round getting beat at New Cumnock at the 18th hole.
Unfortunately our team of Craig Robertson, Ian Pirrie, Mike Beesley and Steven Hill lost out in the Presidents Putter getting beat 1-2 by Rowallan Castle at Belleisle.

At last the season has began, April see’s a very busy month for us in the Abbotsford Golf Club beginning with the Summer Stableford league kicking of on the 4th of April closely followed by the Spring the Stableford on the 7th and 8th. The April Medal is on the 14th and 15th followed by the Midweek Medal(Seafield) on the 18th and 19th. The month ends with our first outing of the year for The Abbotsford Challenge at Slaley Hall, The turn out for all competitions so far this year has been excellent and I thank you’s all for the support shown so far so lets keep it going for the rest of the season. I look forward to seeing everybody out on the course and best of luck for the upcoming season.

Extract from recent Golf Monthly article: Golf’s governing bodies, the R&A and USGA, have announced that a new ‘World Handicap System’ is set to come in to play for 2020. It has been designed to create a more ‘consistent measure of playing ability’. Feautures of the new system include social rounds counting towards handicap and an average-based handicap which takes into account your best 8 of the last 20 scores. Instead of handing in three cards like we do here in the UK, a handicap can be generated from 54-holes of different combinations to include nine hole scores as well as standard 18 hole scores. The new World Handicap System also mirrors CONGU’s recent changes to allow golfers can have a handicap of up to 54.
